Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, with tightening of the muscles of the abdominal wall.

The abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is an extremely successful surgical procedure, designed to sculpt the waistline and smooth the stomach. The surgical technique can also repair damaged and weakened abdominal muscles, further tightening the stomach and ensuring long-term results

Diastasis rectus abdominis is a separation of the left and right sides of the outermost abdominal (stomach) muscle. It is caused by forces that stretch the connective tissue called the linea alba. This condition most often occurs in pregnancy, but also may occur in infants, older women, and men. Diastasis rectus, or rectus abdominis diastasis, is defined as a gap of about 2.7 cm or greater between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscle.

The abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck t is equally effective in women as in men, who have more or less fatty tissue with the sagging skin of the stomach, which cannot be solved with diet and exercises.

The special significance lies in women who are pregnant as a result of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall stretched.

For the patients with excessive body weight who intend to weaken, it is advisable to postpone the surgery until the end of the dietary regime.

The operation should also be postponed for women who are planning pregnancy, as there is a real possibility of detente muscles of the abdominal wall during pregnancy.

If the patient has had a previous surgery on the stomach, it must notify the surgeon and inform him with all the details.

Checking the general health and basic laboratory analysis and radiology findings is necessary.

Anesthesia

The operation is performed under epidural or general anesthesia, and lasts for two to three hours.

A laser incision (CO2 / Nd: YAG) is made from one pelvic bone to the other above the pubic region.

The skin and subcutaneous adipose tissue of the abdomen are separated from the muscles of the abdominal wall to the costal arches.

The navel is previously surrounded by an incision and remains fixed in place. The muscles are tightened with strong threads, which achieve the firmness of the anterior abdominal wall with emphasis on the waist. After pulling down, excess skin and adipose tissue are removed. Mini procedures can be used in patients with a less pronounced problem. In this case, a shorter laser incision is made and ultrasonic LIPOSUCTION (UAL) and VASER are applied to remove excess fat deposits.

Mandatory hospital stay lasts two days. The drain is removed the next day, and the sutures are removed after seven days. The patient wears an elastic corset for several weeks.

Getting out of bed early is recommended and is practiced from day one.

Mild swelling of the abdomen, sometimes accompanied by pain of moderate intensity, remains noticeable for several days.

Return to work depends on the scope of the intervention, the course of recovery and the profession, and can be expected after three to four weeks.

During the period of one month, more intense physical activities, lifting heavy objects and the like should be avoided.

With more extensive interventions, there is a possibility of long-term changes in the sensitivity of the skin of the abdomen.

In the first months, the scars are hard and pink. Only after half a year do they soften and fade, but they almost always remain noticeable. It is advantageous that they can be covered with underwear

Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. The shape and length of the incision will be determined by the amount of excess skin. Once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are repaired. The upper abdominal skin is pulled down like a window shade. The excess skin is trimmed and the remaining skin is sutured together. A new opening for the belly button is created. The belly button is popped through to the surface and sutured into position. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen.

A mini tummy tuckmini abdominoplasty, flattens the lower abdomen and can help eliminate the pooch that often occurs in the lower belly.

During the procedure, the muscles in your lower abdomen may be sutured together, but this isn’t visible from the outside. Excess skin will be trimmed and laid flat.

Why to combine VASER / PAL Vibro Liposuction with Abdominoplasty?

Why use VASER liposuction if you are having the excess fat and skin removed anyway with an abdominoplasty?

Here is the explanation:

During an abdominoplasty, the abdominal skin is elevated off the abdominal muscles, pulled down and excess skin and fat is removed from the lower portion of the skin flap. There is more to it than this, but this is a simplified explanation. The remaining abdominal skin is just as thick with fat as it was prior to the surgery.

There is no longer an excess of abdominal skin, but the skin that remains has just as much fat under it as it did prior to surgery.

Better contours are achieved by eliminating the redundancy of skin, and thus giving a tighter appearance to the abdomen. However, by not thinning the remaining skin, there will not be any improvement in muscular definition.

Unless your skin is very thin and your muscles well developed, an abdominoplasty alone will give you a substantial improvement in contours but will be limited by the fact that the appearance will be very two dimensional – kind of like a sheet pulled flat down until taut. If you have thin skin and a well-developed musculature, then you can have more definition after an abdominoplasty naturally.

VASER/PAL Lipo-Abdominoplasty with Simultaneous Breast Reduction

This patient underwent circumferential VASER/PAL liposuction with fat transfer to the buttocks.

Next, a lipo-abdominoplasty was performed with umbilical re-location.

Finally, a breast reduction was performed. Note the following improvements that would not be possible without liposuction:

Narrow, defined waist with muscular definition, more pronounced S-curve along the back, elimination of back rolls under her bra, fuller, higher, rounder buttocks. Body Tate was used to maximize skin contraction on the back rolls.

Benefits of VASER/PAL Lipo-Abdominoplasty

By performing VASER/PAL liposuction prior to abdominoplasty, the abdominal skin can be selectively thinned and shaped prior to abdominoplasty, leading to a more natural shape, with three dimensional contours, not just a flat panel of skin stretched down over the abdomen.

In the vast majority of cases, VASER should be performed on the flanks as well, to better enhance the contours of the trunk as an aesthetic unit of the body. Otherwise, the abdomen can look flat and sculpted with blunted, rounded borders where the flanks remain unshaped.

In some cases, adding VASER liposuction extended to the flanks may even permit a standard abdominoplasty to give good results where otherwise an extended abdominoplasty (excising skin around the sides of the flanks) would have otherwise been necessary.

To further enhance your results, you may wish to consider VASER liposuction of the back, arms, thighs, mons and fat transfer to the buttocks and hips.

FAQ ABDOMINOPLASTY

What is Laser Abdominoplasty  ( tummy tuck) ?

The abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is an extremely successful surgical procedure, designed to sculpt the waistline and smooth the stomach. The surgical technique assisted by laser can also repair damaged and weakened abdominal muscles, further tightening the stomach and ensuring long-term results

What is the difference between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck?

A full tummy tuck tightens skin and muscles over the entire abdominal area, above and below the belly button. … A mini tummy tuck tightens and flattens the area below the belly button, and does not address loose skin or separated muscles in the middle or upper abdomen.

What involves a full Abdominoplasty?

  • making a large incision across the lower tummy, from hip to hip, just above the pubic area.
  • making a second incision to free the belly button from the tissue that surrounds it.
  • separating the skin from the abdominal wall.
  • realigning the abdominal muscles.
  • removing excess fat and skin.

Abdominoplasty and weight loss ?

If you are seeking abdominoplasty to restore your stomach after an injury, pregnancy, natural weight loss, or age, you probably will only lose two to five pounds of excess skin after this procedure. However, losing excess skin can make exercise easier. This can spur significant weight loss after the procedure.

What is happens if you lose weight after tummy tuck?

Losing weight after you have a tummy tuck can reverse the effects of your surgery. Depending on the amount of weight you lose, your skin may not be able to retract and you‘ll be left with sagging skin like before (but maybe not as much).

Is a Panniculectomy (removing hanging skin) the same as a tummy tuck?

A panniculectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the pannus — excess skin and tissue from the lower abdomen. This excess skin is sometimes referred to as an “apron.” Unlike a tummy tuck, the panniculectomy does not tighten the abdominal muscles for a more cosmetic appearance, disqualifying it as a cosmetic procedure.

What is diastasis of the abdominal rectus muscles?

Diastasis rectus abdominis is a separation of the left and right sides of the outermost abdominal (stomach) muscle. It is caused by forces that stretch the connective tissue called the linea alba. This condition most often occurs in pregnancy, but also may occur in infants, older women, and men.

Diastasis rectus, or rectus abdominis diastasis, is defined as a gap of about 2.7 cm or greater between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscle.

Can Diastasis Recti be fixed without full abdominoplasty?

The key to healing diastasis recti is rebuilding your body core from the inside out. You need to strengthen the transverse abdominis (TVA) muscle, which is the deepest abdominal muscle and can provide support for those muscles that have been stretched.

When I a need surgeon to fix my diastasis recti?

In extreme cases, diastasis recti must be corrected with a plastic  surgery procedure known as an full abdominoplasty by creating a plication or folding of the linea alba and suturing together. This creates a tighter abdominal wall. There are two surgical methods:

  1. one through Plication method which is plication of the anterior rectus sheath and
  2. other Hernia repair considering suture closure of hernia sac combined with mesh reinforcement.

Diastasis or Hernia?

A diastasis is the thinning and weakening of the connective tissue (linea alba) that connects the left and right sides of the rectus abdominis muscle (6-pack muscle). A hernia is the protrusion of an organ or piece of tissue from its normally contained space.

A laser tummy tuck uses a thin laser fiber that Dr Ciric inserts beneath your skin. The laser is then heated and it melts the surrounding fat without damaging the tissue. … In a surgical tummy tuck, a surgeon makes an incision from hip to hip and uses permanent sutures to tighten the abdominal muscles.

Because your incisions are made by a laser during a Laser procedure, they’re generally smaller, neater, and less noticeable than those made during traditional tummy tuck procedures. Your scar will also be mostly lower, just at the top of your pubic area, so less visible.

Laser and Vaser Liposuction advantages and limitations and necessity of Laser Abdominoplasty?

In some cases, similar goals as tummy tuck can be achieved with laser assisted liposuction procedure. Advanced laser technology allows for controlled delivery of heat energy into the deeper fat layers of the abdomen. Once the unwanted fat tissue is liquefied, it can be removed with a suction process in a less aggressive manner. A special laser-tipped surgical instrument is applied to destroy targeted fat cells in the laser lipo procedure.
This technique in laser liposuction which requires the patient to be mostly only under local anesthesia. The trauma to the surrounding healthy tissue is reduced with this laser guided fat reduction treatment.

Another laser assisted technique for the abdominal fat reduction. In this technique, laser fibers deliver heat energy to the targeted fat cells. Tumescent local anesthesia is used in this technique.

Patients should be aware that the laser liposuction procedure offers a more limited but less invasive approach as compared to tummy tuck.

In case of tummy tuck surgery, loose abdominal skin is excised, sagging muscles are tightened, and excess fat may be removed with or without liposuction.

The surgeon will recommend laser lipo or tummy tuck surgery according to the requirements of a particular case.
